One of the most interesting and unusual videos to be posted on this site, this stellar attraction gives the viewer the opportunity to see three of contemporary Japan’s finest younger rope sensei in action at the same time and on the same stage! The formidable trio of Mira Kurumi, Kazami Ranki and Osada Steve all take to the SM Jail in the Roppongi district of Tokyo to present a simultaneous and artful demonstration of the Yokozuri (or sideways suspension). It’s an awesome display of rope craft and a beautifully staged show, as well.
The lovely models enter the bare stage each in a different costume. Kurumi’s partner, Miki, wears a Chinese frock. Osada Steve’s, Ageha Asagi, sports a little black western maid uniform. Ranki’s, Yumeka, goes for a light summer kimono. Of course, as soon as the three masters arrive these clothes are quickly dispensed with to be replaced by lots of elegantly applied rope. It’s fascinating to watch the subtle differences that each man uses to create his suspension. One could almost call it a master’s class if that academic phrase didn’t detract from the drama and beauty of the show.
Using his trademark red nawa, the towering Osada Steve strings his partner up high over the stage as Kurumi and Ranki follow suit at slightly lower levels. It’s a breathtaking display as each woman loses her clothes then her footing and becomes a dancing, swirling, puppet helplessly swinging in the ropes. At the conclusion, Mira Kurumi returns one last time to bind all the swaying women loosely together to create what would be a spectacular suspension still in any rope book. Congratulations to all!
