The memorial event commemorating the genius of the remarkable late and lamented Akechi Denki sensei is the setting for another first-rate and inspired performance. Such an event brings out the best SM/Kinbaku acts in Japan and this Osada rises to the occasion with another trademark performance.
It’s marvelous to note how Osada Steve’s can clearly crank up his speed if he wants to. His hands almost fly as he quickly secures his partner to send her airborne and the comparison to his great mentor, the “flying rope man,” Osada Eikichi is now much more than in name only. For her part the remarkable Ageha turns from limp rag doll to animated marionette as she shows off her incredible strength and acrobatic ability. In a very creative and fast-moving display, the team moves from the unusual and seldom seen Takatekote-zuri to a Sakasa-zuri ending in an impossible tight Gyaku-ebi zuri.
A fine program and a fitting tribute of tough and tender Shibari to honor one of the greatest masters of our time.
